Main Tour About

Ana Brazil ( rhymes with razzle and dazzle ) has always been fascinated by the historical connections between people, places, and things. She caught the writing bug at an early age, authoring her sixth grade's Christmas play, writing poetry and short stories in junior high, and editing her high school literary magazine.

Ana studied history at Florida State University, and first saw New Orleans during a college road trip. Love at first sight! During that time, Ana also fell in love with the vibrant and socially progressive women of the late 19th Century, including Chicago's settlement house founder Jane Addams, muck-raking journalist Ida Tarbell, and heroine-in-progress Eleanor Roosevelt.

For her Master's thesis, Ana researched New Orleans' own Eleanor McMain, the founder of the Kingsley House settlement (a prototype for Wisdom Hall) and explored McMain's role in the evolution of social welfare in late 19th Century New Orleans.

Ana worked as a historian with the State Historic Preservation Offices of both Florida and Mississippi. She returned to her native Northern California to manage the preservation-focused Alameda Main Street Project, and is currently employed in the high tech sector.

Ana and her husband, Tim, (the magnificent maestro of this website) live high in the hills of beautiful Oakland, California, with their amazing dog and cat.
